Euxton Villa F.C - Match Report
  08/11/08     Charnock Richard     0     Euxton Villa     1

( 0 )  ( 1 )   Stewart

A tense derby game played in the correct spirit, Villa took an early lead and then an outstanding display from the back four and keeper Shaun Gibbs ensured Villa took home the points.

The visitors started well, in the first minute Danny Dawson forced a save from the Charnock keeper. Then after ten minutes Charnock came close following a free kick, which was tipped onto the crossbar by Shaun Gibbs. A minute later came what proved to be the decisive moment of the game. Villa attacked down the right and a perfectly flighted cross from Adam McAlister was volleyed home by Damien Stewart.

For the first twenty five minutes Villa played the better football. On twenty minutes Danny Dawson cut a ball back from the touchline to Matt Conway who put a shot over the bar. Then it was Charnock's turn, coming close with a header. Minutes later Sam Shone was unlucky with a low shot past the foot of the post.

As the half progressed the Charnock pressure increased. They had a chance on the half hour with a first time shot which was well saved by Shaun Gibbs.
With a couple of minutes remaining the home side created late chances, firstly a shot skimmed the top of the Villa bar, then a dangerous cross was tipped over the bar by Shaun Gibbs. The visitors finished the half with their lead intact, despite the home side increasing the pressure, the Villa defence restricted them to very few clear opportunities on goal.

Charnock started the second half as they finished the first and Shaun Gibbs was quickly called into action, this time tipping the ball onto the crossbar following a corner. Two minutes later Villa had a chance, they were awarded a free kick on the right from which Danny Dawson was unlucky to see his header go just over the bar. The pattern of the game changed again after an hour of play with Villa starting to reassert themselves.

For the rest of the match there were very few chances created as the bulk of the play was condensed into the midfield area. The best chances now fell to Euxton. On the hour Sam Shone found space on the right before shooting over the bar. Then with ten minutes remaining Villa produced a good move which started with Liam Conway on the right, he found Sam Shone who crossed for Mark Swift to shoot wide of the post.

On the day Villa played a tight organised game taking the early lead then holding onto it for the remainder of the match. Charnock will be disappointed not to have taken something from the game, but on the other hand Villa certainly did not deserve to lose.
