Tempest United produced a very spirited performance given their current league position, making Villa fight all the way to take something from the game.

Villa started brightly with Liam Conway causing the visitors early problems down the right wing. With eleven minutes played Euxton came close when a Mark Swift free kick was headed over by David Heald. On twenty minutes Villa had the ball in the net. A cross from Liam Conway was headed goalwards by David Mason and David Heald following up turned the ball in, only to be ruled offside.

Five minutes later a Tempest free kick took a wicked deflection off the pitch giving keeper Adam Stone no chance. Within a minute Villa were level as Anton Martin drove in a cross which Neil Bretherton collected well before turning and shooting home. Tempest were still very much in the game and on the half-hour they regained the lead with a well worked move down the right.
The resulting cross was turned into the Villa net by the Tempest centre forward. Villa tried again to pick up their game, good work down the left by Neil Bretherton saw his dangerous cross cleared, a couple of minutes later he broke down the left again this time forcing the keeper to save. Euxton continued to press and with five minutes of the half remaining Kevin Ormrod saw his fierce drive beaten out by the Tempest keeper. On the stroke of half-time Villa drew level. A Mark Swift free kick was cleared for a corner, Neil Bretherton took the kick which was firmly headed home by David Mason.

Villa started the second half in determined mood, a great ball from Liam Conway released David Mason, his low cross was met by Neil Bretherton but his effort was saved. With 54 minutes played David Mason had the ball in the net, but the effort was disallowed for handball. Three minutes later a great turn and cross from Anton Martin was hit wide by David Heald. With 15 minutes remaining Tempest stunned Villa again when they regained the lead following a defensive slip. Once again the home side responded and a minute later they were again level as Liam Conway cut in from the right and beat the keeper with a low shot. Villa went flat out for a winner but the visitors held out for a well deserved point.
