I would find it
difficult to do a report
on this match without
focusing heavily on a
very pompous and ego
driven refereeing
display, so I won't
bother.
Suffice to say that both
sides had their fair
share of the ball, and
Villa could have taken
the lead on a couple of
occasions when Neil
Davies created two
golden chances, working
his way into the box and
driving the ball low and
hard across the face,
but on both occasions
the support just failed
to stick a toe out in
time to effect the
necessary finish. Turton
scored a super goal mid
way through the second
half, when a Bingham
headed clearance from a
corner fell kindly and
was hook volleyed high
into the rigging.
The game then descended
into farce thanks to the
aforementioned. It
should be said though,
that although both teams
had about the same
amount of possession,
Ross Baxter in the Villa
goal had to make two or
three excellent stops,
and Turton also saw one
back off the post,
whereas their keeper was
never seriously tested.
