Since going
top of the table the boys have suffered four defeats in a
row and today was a perfect opportunity for a reversal of
fortune. There was an air of confidence around the ground
today and EVTV had secured exclusive coverage of the game
with a complete highlights package being broadcast all
around RPH floor 3 ward 16 first door on the left. And in
this male dominated game it wasn’t it nice to see a female
contribution in the form of Karen the cameraman.
As soon as the
boys kicked off you could see they were up for it today.
Liam broke in down the right and his shot was deflected in.
1-0 Villa after 35 seconds. More Villa pressure earned a
corner, which Barney crossed in and Jack was there to meet
it. 2-0 Villa. A minute later Mikey put Nathan through his
shot was parried out to Barney who thundered one against the
crossbar. Everyone fancied scoring today with Connor and
Adam both going close. Adam then put Liam in whose shot was
saved by the keeper but it fell straight to Jack who made it
3-0. More long range attempts from Matt and Adam saw their
efforts just clear the crossbar. Jack then completed his hat
trick with a neat bit of skill using his knee to lob the
keeper then following up to tap in. 4-0. Connor and Nathan
then had shots saved before Nathan knocked in his first to
make 5-0 at half time.
An
unfortunate half time incident saw Karen the cameraman take
a severe blow to the head when Adam hurled his water bottle
into the crowd. Despite having two hairs knocked out of
place she bravely fought on to film the second half.
The second
half started much like the first with Jack going straight
through in the first minute but his shot being saved. This
was shortly followed by Mikey and Adam both going close. A
good passing move between Barney Liam and Jack just lacked
that final touch to finish it off. Then Mikey struck one
heading for the bottom left corner only to be thwarted by a
magnificent save from the keeper. Mikey then lobbed a good
ball over the top of the defence and Jack was there to knock
in his fourth and make it 6-0. There was confusion in the
Villa defence with the ref over ruling the offside and a
Croston player stole in to give them a much deserved goal.
6-1. Villa responded straight way by creating a little bit
of Mowtown (answers on a postcard) to put us 7-1 up. But it
was Croston who were the stronger team in the final quarter
and could have had a couple more goals if the finishing had
been better. Villa redeemed themselves in the final minute
when a rare move down the left was brilliantly finished by
Nathan to make the final score 8-1. A good result and a good
performance but credit must be given to Croston who never
gave up and showed at times in the second half that they
were the more determined of the two sides.
Final mention
must go to Mandy and Graham who have raised the bar on the
hotdog front. A thoroughly professional service and
distribution with onions to boot has certainly set the
standard for which the next incumbent will be expected to
maintain.
