Euxton Villa F.C - Match Report
Leyland Albion v Euxton Villa 11am Kick Off 16th March 2008

The team & entourage gathered at Worden Park. The Winter sun shone on the faces of the crowd.
Cup games are always different and following a 3-3 draw, it was anyone’s guess.

1st Half
Playing downhill & with the wind in their faces Villa looked slow out of the traps. Albion piled on the effort and showed a great deal of enthusiasm for the game putting Villa under pressure and forcing mistakes and it was them who claimed the first corner on 5mins and only 1min later forced another error resulting in a goal.1-0. 6mins.
Everything was wrong and Albion played the long ball game to great advantage and despite pressure from Villa winning corners on 7 & 9mins it was Albion who could finish better and did so on 10mins. 2-0.
Villa started to clamber their way back into the game, Kyle & Sam pushed forward and Danny & Alex held the back and it seemed to help Tom M & Jamie G to bring the wingers into the game. Smithy & Jamie A chasing down everything passed to them. The last 20mins belonged to Villa and despite plenty of possession & pressure Charlie & Greg pulled the trigger just as the Albion slid in or got a foot in or, in truth, just wanted to make the stop a little more than Villa wanted to take the chances. It was against the run of play when Albion put in a third,3-0. 35mins.

Half Time 3-0
The management whilst not at a loss for words were certainly struggling to understand what was making the Villa so leaden footed. A good one sided discussion took place.

2nd Half
Villa immediately put pressure on the Albion and it was great to see some fantastic passing football opening up Albion time after time. The second corner of the half went to Villa and it was Jamie G who took it well, Charlie took an over head kick and it’s up to them who claims it but it was in, at last. 3-1.5mins.
Albion were shocked.
Two more corners followed and then a great opportunity to “pull the trigger” at the right time resulted in a second, Charlie took it well.3-2. 9mins.
Albion were worried.
Albion came back into the game as Villa, either tired or backed off, but as the two attitudes met they made a midfield battle of the game with little else for either side. Will came on and Smithy made way at the quarter of an hour mark.
Ryan M whose kicking in the second half had been excellent seemed untroubled until the breakaway on 23mins, when Albion sealed the game. 4-2.
Villa fought back but again couldn’t finish and chances went begging and as they pushed ever forward, Albion’s long ball taking it’s toll on 33mins. 5-2 and again on 35mins. 6-2. Villa’s cup run ended there.

Full Time 6-2
The management expressed the opinion that they had just seen a poor first half & a great second half and that the boys must take learning’s from this and move on to “want to win” the final 4 league games. Most people, on both sides, had opinions on the “flow” of the game, enough said.
