Southlands was sunny, mild & with a slight wind across the pitch …odd! Both teams had played only once since the start of the year. The pitch was in good condition given the weather of the previous week.
1st Half
A good start by Ripon put Villa on the back foot. Ripon won a corner after only 90 secs and kept up the pressure and secured the first goal on 2mins. 0-1.
A wake up call for Villa. Sam won the ball, good pass to Danny out wide who found Greg with a great through ball and Greg unselfishly passed to Tom M who slammed it in to restore the balance just 30secs later. 1-1. Charlie stepped up to secure his first on 4mins.2-1
Ripon swapped their keeper at this point and it took another 6mins before Charlie took his second and Villa’s third on 10mins. 3-1.
The passing throughout the team was excellent and the running forward even better, as the back four pushed up even more the pressure that was on Ripon was unrelenting. The new keeper made a great save and pushed the ball wide to give Villa their first corner on 16mins. A second corner was won and Danny hit the bar with an 18yd shot.
Charlie took his hat trick with a great touch on the outside of his right boot on 22mins. 4-1. And his fourth on 25mins. 5-1. Greg opened his goal account 3 mins later. 6-1 on 28mins.
Smithy, Danny & Jamie A were given a rest on 30mins with Steven, Will & Kyle taking to the pitch.
Alex held firm at the back and spread the play well to include the new players whose fresh legs took the game further into the Ripon half. Shots peppered the Ripon goal.
Greg took his second on 31mins 7-1,and Tom M took his second on 33mins.8-1.
The first half saw the end of a brilliant display of football from the Villa.

Half Time 8-1
There wasn’t much from George & Dave other than a big well done, that was all that was needed and a reminder that whilst the going was good it was always to be done with respect for the opposition.

2nd Half
It carried on and Ripon’s legs were understandably heavy especially when Steven took his first after only 2mins. 9-1.

Will & Ryan M swapped as keeper to give Ryan a run out up front.

Greg came off after getting a knock and Danny went back on.
Ripon cleared off the line on 24mins.
Steven took a touch on 25mins. 18-1
Steven came off & Smithy was back on.
Ripon took a chance well on 25mins to remind the Villa to keep to the job in hand.18-2

Then Tom G after being pushed forward to score his first of the season hit both posts with one shot, then right on the death he took it. 35mins.21-2. The whistle blew.

An awesome display of passing football and great effort from everyone involved. A sound defence & keeper, great tackling in midfield, super support from the subs and awesome finishing up front. Well done, roll on next week.
