Euxton Villa F.C - Match Report
  Euxton Villa v BAC Preston 11am K.O Sunday 30th March 2008

After an hours less sleep the crowd gathered to see Southlands basking in glorious sunshine, however it was a wet & soggy pitch that awaited the teams with a strong wind running the length of the pitch. This was going to be a tough game if the boys were going to play as they had done for the last few games, BAC are nobody’s fools but with a change in structure the crowd were hopeful that winning ways would return. Silvan got closest with his prediction.

1st Half
After a pretty good start by the Villa, the first attack by BAC showed why they are so dangerous as they secured a corner after only 2mins, it was an unsure Villa that failed to clear and BAC slotted home the first. 0-1.
2mins later they won another corner and from this one hit the bar …the Villa needed to “up it” if they were going to get back to winning ways. The play was balanced but it was BAC who looked the more threatening. BAC won an indirect free kick in the area on 12mins and then won a corner from it. Villa were learning fast and cleared this very well. Alex, solid as ever was now joined in centre by a hard tackling Kyle, good vision & pace from Jamie A & Sam meant that Tom M & Jamie G would find the ball going forward. It was a good pass & go display that brought about the equaliser when Greg slotted it home on the rebound. 1-1. 14mins.
Villa were now turning the game and had it not been for a fantastic save on 17mins when Jamie G’s free kick was pushed over the bar ,Villa would have been in front. They had to wait till 21mins when, from a corner, Charlie launched one and after that it went in …who off? who cares? we’ll credit Charlie.2-1.22mins.As if to remind the Villa that they were not to be overrun BAC ran forward and only a fantastic tackle by Alex stopped the play.
Danny was coming more and more into the game showing what a great winger he is, crossing into Greg & Charlie but it was Smithy on the other side who showed how to score from the wing with a great looping shot that bounced just over the line as Greg followed it in to make sure.3-1. 29mins.
The whistle blew dead on 35mins.

Half Time 3-1
George & Dave congratulated the boys on a good first half, warned them of starting slowly in the second and sent them out with some determination and asked them not to let BAC back into the game. Kyle came off & Tom G made the restart.

2nd Half
BAC came out fighting but so did Villa and it was end to end until 9mins in, when a great piece of play by Danny put Jamie G in in front of goal and he scored Villa’s third. 4-1.
A super save by BAC’s keeper kept out the fifth on 14mins, pushing it round the post for a corner. It was from this corner that Tom G did score the fifth. 5-12.15mins.
Then bickering etc started in the Villa ranks, it was unhelpful and Villa started to let BAC back in and it was no surprise that they scored. 5-2. 23mins. BAC were now putting Villa under pressure and the game got very scrappy with free kicks being awarded left, right & centre. Sam & Alex played very well cutting out dangerous balls and clearing to the midfield. Danny came off on 25mins and Will went on. Villa were lucky not to concede another as BAC won a string of corners. It wasn’t luck, it was bravery & skill that Ryan M showed as he saved threats on numerous occasions with a great pair of safe hands. Smithy came off on 32mins and Steven was sent on to finish the game.

Full Time 5-2.
Very well done boys, great win. Great first half, the second was more of a battle than a game and whilst not pretty and it was needed however there isn’t any need for criticism of each other ever, and even more especially when you’re winning. Seek to help each other and cover for each other, keep playing the game you are good at and don’t panic, you will win. You are great. Well done ref …a difficult one. We really need some lines being marked out to help the officials.
