16th September
At Worden Park on a
small pitch Euxton Villa under 18’s got off to a great start
thanks to some intricate one touch football. This paid off
after midfield played in Hadji, who then slid in Monks who
fired into the top corner sweatly from just inside the area.
1-0. Gregson Lane pushed themselves into the game, with help
from sluggish play from Euxton who were finding it hard on
the little pitch, but the opponents could not show anything
from their efforts. The opposition then were hit a sucker
blow when Monks again got himself on the score sheet, this
time with a bullet header from an inch perfect corner from
Marsden. 2-0.
Gregson Lane were
coping better with the compact play in midfield and got off
the mark midway through the half with a scrambled goal from
inside the 6 yard box. 2-1. Euxton were unsettled and were
the happier side for the half time whistle to be blown. Half
Time: Gregson Lane 1-2 Euxton Villa.
After the restart
Euxton’s team talk was noticeable when they started the
brightest and were piling on the pressure, a nice move down
the right enabled Monks to grab a hat trick as he slotted
across the keeper into the far corner from a tight angle.
3-1. As Euxton pushed forward again some nervous defending
allowed the strikers to open the gap and Dawson to score
coolly to make it 4-1.
More and more space
developed in the centre of the park which permitted the
Euxton midfielders time on the ball, this time a run from
deep by Whewell ended in a bullet goal from 30yards struck
into the roof of the net. 5-1. Whewell again ran from the
right to supply Myerscough in the box who was pulled down
for a spot kick. Whewell stepped up and calmly finished from
the penalty spot. 6-1. To end off a great second half
display, a perfect pass from defence and some great running
from Hadji, allowed time for a sublime finishing from 20
yards out in form of a lob from hadji. 7-1.
