Challenge Cup
Sunday 25th February
Kick off 2.0pm
Another 2 o’clock kick off and against the team which
had beaten us in the league twice already, which Euxton
team would turn up?
Villa kicked off and the boys were immediately on the
back foot. We were struggling to get going , always
second to the ball etc etc (it seemed the 2oclock kick
off scenario was going to be repeated). The BAC boys
were, as expected a well organised and talented team and
soon had our defence under pressure, Tommo producing
some good stops. Unfortunately it was no surprise that
BAC soon scored, we just didn’t clear the ball and
didn’t have anybody marking the 2 BAC players queing up
to score, 1-0. However the boys didn’t let their heads
drop and tried to pick their game up.
Half time and Andy gave one of his inspirational team
talks. The boys came out with a renewed determination.
BAC kicked off and we were straight into them spraying
passes about, challenging for everything, first to the
ball and at last getting their passing game going. This
was a different team in the second half. The
determination paid off with some good passing moves
,leading to Liam scoring with a left foot drive into the
bottom corner.
BAC heads dropped and we piled on the pressure , Robert
,Barney , Nicky going on some great runs and it was only
the good saves from their keeper denying us. We were
giving their defenders almighty problems with our runs.
Shots, headers were all flying in, all going close. BAC
were taking a battering and were hanging on by their
fingertips. With the support of the travelling Euxton
supporters roaring (should that be yelling?) them on,
surely we would score?
3 minutes to go and on one of their rare ventures into
our half they got a lucky deflection for a corner , the
ball was floated in and Tommo produced a great save only
to see it fall at the feet of their player who duly
poked it home. 2-1. The boys responded brilliantly ,
with Nicky latching onto a through ball beat the keeper
only to see his effort saved by the toe of a defender.
This proved to be our last chance and when the ref blew
for full time nobody could believe we’d lost.
The boys absolutely gave their all in the second half,
played some fantastic football and showed why they are
top of the league. BAC must have been shell shocked with
the boys second half display, a brilliant effort by all
and the result was a total injustice for a really
excellent effort.
We have 4 games left to play, the boys need to just
continue with this form to ensure they win the league.
100% effort and
concentration at training on Tuesdays and I’m sure
they’ll succeed.
