Mid Lancs Colts u10s Premier league
: Sunday 4th February 2007
Kick-off 2.0pm
Having complained last week about the
weather, I was proved wrong …again, beautiful day
excellent facilities at Tarleton ( excellent refreshment
service…Euxton take note). What is it with these, 2 o
clock kick offs, every time we have one, we cant be sure
which team will turn up. Sure enough the boys didn’t
perform (Kyle excepted).
As for the match , we welcomed back
Barney from his illness and Nicky dropped to the
bench.Tarleton are a well organised and talented team,
and soon set about testing our defence. Our midfield of
Bradley, Robert and Liam, although industrious struggled
to get any passes going, with the Tarleton midfield
working hard to deny us any space. Both teams kept
pushing forward and Kyle (who probably had his best game
so far this season) was having to work hard to deny
them. Bradley picked up on a loose ball , passed to
Robert who released Liam on the left who beat his man
and produced a shot which hit the angle of the crossbar
and post, bounced behind the keeper, Barney following in
headed home, 1-0.
You could feel the sense of relief
throughout the team (and spectators), however Tarleton
weren’t finished and kept pushing forward. Tarleton were
awarded a free kick for a foul. The free kick was hit
superb and flew into the top corner with Tommo rooted to
the spot,1-1.This gave Tarleton the incentive to pile on
the pressure and this brought out the best of Kyle who
was in action all over the pitch. Despite
“encouragement” from Andy (how he didn’t loose his
voice!!) we couldn’t get our act together, Then against
the run of play a ball in from the right struck a
defender and was deflected in,2-1 to Euxton.
Half time 2-1 and we needed one of
Andys rallying talks (first to the ball, wake up, pass
the ball etc etc etc.) Straight from the kick off we
pushed forward and gained a corner and with Andy
screaming to take it short, Robert obliged passed to
Liam who pushed forward into the Tarleton box and shot a
low drive into the net, 3-1. Despite giving Barney,
Bradley and Robert breathers with Nic coming on we
struggled to get going and it was no surprise that
despite Kyles efforts Tarleton scored again, 3-2.
When the final whistle blew there was
relief all round, the boys hadn’t played as well as they
can, and they knew it. We were lucky today to come away
with the 3 points (about time we had some luck did I
hear you say ?) when a draw perhaps would have been
fairer.
Still we are now joint leaders of the
league with BAC with exactly the same amount of games
played, so its all still to be played for. We can push
BAC to the wire, provided the boys play as they know
they can, Tuesday training nights take on even more
importance now.
