Mid Lancs Colts
League Kick off 12 noon.
Due to the weather this match was
transferred from being an away fixture, to a “home”
fixture. As is the norm for Sundays the weather didn’t
disappoint, howling gale, but luckily no rain.
Unfortunately we were without Barney who was ill, but we
had a ready made replacement in Nick. Anyway,
Springfields kicked off with the wind behind them, and
were soon putting us under sustained pressure. The game
was flowing end to end with both sets of forwards
creating chances. At last, we started to get our passing
game going and a shot from Robert produced an excellent
save from their keeper who somehow managed to dive
backwards and tip it over. Springfields kept pushing
forward with Kyle and Matthew having to work really
hard. Bradley, in his midfield role was putting in a
great shift, producing some fine tackles and passes, one
of which to Kyle, who was on the halfway line (and
facing into the wind) who produced a magnificent shot
which just went over the bar, with the keeper beaten.
The action was non stop end to end stuff, Liam latching
onto a through ball and again the keeper produced a fine
save diving at his feet. Following some neat approach
work Robert unleashed a great shot which rattled the
crossbar (which, had it not have “bend” in it due to the
damage from the winds, would have probably gone in).
Half time came with some relief for the boys would had
had to work extremely hard containing Springfields and
playing against the wind.
Euxton kicked off the second half
with the wind behind them (which by now had reduced in
velocity) and were soon putting some good moves
together. As we pushed forward we left gaps at the back
and Springfield nearly caught us out with a few breaks.
The football was still end to end with everyone really
having to work hard. Following a handball Robert
unleashed a great freekick which again crashed against
the crossbar (no bend on this bar though). Still the
game was evenly balanced with both teams trying to win
it, no sitting back, content with a draw for these boys.
In the final minutes Tommo had to produce a great save
to keep them out and at the other end with virtually the
last kick of the match Bradley produced a fine effort
which produced an equally excellent save from the keeper
diving smartly to his right.
At the final whistle it was 0-0, and
an excellent match, which was a credit to both sets of
boys. We really worked hard as a team and everyone gave
their all which is all that can be asked. Although a
draw, we were unlucky not get the 3 points as we had hit
the bar 3 times
.Everything is still there to be
played for, League and cup, keep it going boys.
