Just Champion Boys
Judgement day had arrived, would the
boys be able to get the win that would give them the
league title? The weather was certainly kind, sunny and
cold. The boys realising it was April fools day had
already managed to wind up Andy, Kyle ringing to say
he’d damaged his ankle, Tommo turning up with his arm in
a sling. The parents didn’t need any winding up, we were
all on tender hooks any way.
Euxton kicked off and were soon
pushing forward, but it was soon obvious that the
pressure was already showing, the boys were making
mistakes that they wouldn’t normally. The large band of
home support were trying not to exhibit their
nervousness to the boys but were unsuccessful. Brinscall
were well aware of the importance of the match to us and
were trying their upmost to win the game. Brinscall had
most of the play, forcing a number of corners which
thankfully they couldn’t capitalise on. Kyle and Matthew
having to work really hard to keep them at bay, and
Tommo producing some great stops. Brinscall were pinning
us back in our own half, Liam taking a kick to the ankle
was subbed by Nicky. Bradley and Barney combined well
and in our first foray into the Brinscall half released
Robert who managed to slot home (which really was
against the run of play) 1-0.
Half time and Andy need to produce
one of his motivational half time talks. Brinscall
kicked off and were soon continuing where they’d left
off, again Tommo producing some good stops. The boys
were not to be out done, Bradley and Barney combining
with Nicky soon had Brinscall under pressure and as
result Robert slotted home number 2. You could feel the
relief throughout the supporters and this seemed to lift
the boys. Nicky and Robert both going close with a
number of efforts.
Liam came back on, and together with
Robert produced some fine runs and again following one
of these Robert shot home for number 3 (what a day to
get a hatrick Robert!).
Game over? Brinscall didn’t think so
, and were soon pushing forward and coming close with a
number of fine efforts. It was no surprise they pulled
one back but it was too late. The ref blew for full time
and the boys were champions. There’s no describing the
celebrations that followed except to say Champagne (yes
I know but), lemonade Pomagne were suddenly produced and
sprayed everywhere.
The winning of the league is a true
reflection of the effort and determination shown by the
boys throughout the season, regardless of the weather,
they are a true credit to the club, well done boys, well
done Andy and Pete.
