Following last weeks
hard fought away win , the boys were in buoyant mood.
Straight from the kick off they pushed forward with the
midfield trio of Barney, Bradley and Robert really quick to
stamp their authority on things. The boys were really
stringing some neat passes together and playing attractive
football but as has been the case in all the games so far
the final ball was lacking. Following an excellent passing
move between Liam and Barney, Robert went close with an half
volley, the ball just going over the bar. We were all
starting to wonder if it was going to be one of those games,
when Robert went on one of his runs down the right, passed
to BARNEY who turned and unleashed a low shot. The ball
struck a defender and went in , 1-0. The goal lifted the
boys but Ripon continued with their long ball tactics and
managed to catch Matthew and Kyle out a few times, but Tommo
was in fine form and denied Ripon with a series of good
saves.
Still we kept up the
pressure chipping away at their 5 man defence, and again
following slick passing, Liam forced an excellent save from
the visiting keeper. From the resulting goal kick Bradley
fed the ball to BARNEY who turned pushed forward and
produced an excellent strike past the advancing keeper, 2-0.
Again Ripon kept
pushing forward with the long ball and came close a few more
times before Barney released Liam on the left who turned 2
defenders and scored with a low drive, 3-0 and half time.
Second half saw us
kicking downhill with wind behind us. Andy brought on Nick
and Ryan ,Robert and Matthew making way. Although we had a
huge amount of possession we stopped passing to each other,
everyone wanting to score and as a result we left big gaps
at the back which Ripon were thankfully not to capitalise
on. With virtually everyone in the Ripon penalty area, Ripon
broke forward and scored with Tommo unable to stop the shot.
This gave Ripon hope and they piled on the pressure going
close a few times. What should have been a comfortable win
was at the end a relief we had secured the 3 points. The
boys are capable of better and they know it, we will need
play our passing game for this weekends game if we are to
get the 3 points.
