Euxton Villa 4
Springfields 1
Liam Scores a Hat
Trick
The sun was out (is it really
October?),the boys were in buoyant mood and all of us
spectators were eagerly awaiting this six point game. We
were not to be disappointed. From the kickoff both sides
went for everything, playing at a fast pace, with numerous
chances being created at both ends. Springfields kept us
under pressure but at the back Bradley and Matthew stood
firm. Springfield gained a corner and from the goal mouth
scramble the ball fell to their wing player who floated in a
cross which was met by Bradley and unfortunately diverted
past Tommo and in, 1-0 to Springfields.
The goal spurred us on, with the mid
field starting to pass the ball about with increased
determination.
Robert took a superb free kick out on the
right which beat everyone and struck the crossbar, again this
lifted the boys and they pressed forward. Springfields
reacted too, creating 2 efforts which caused mad scrambles
in the box, but Tommo produced some brave saves. Two super
strikes from Bradley and Liam both struck the bar/post
surely the equaliser would soon come? Still Springfields
pressed forward and from one of their attacks Bradley won
the ball and released Nick on the right who unleashed a
great shot, which was deflected by a defender and in, 1-1.
The game was still evenly balanced with
both sides continuing to play positive football and each
looking to score. Euxton midfield kept breaking down the
Springfield attacks, Bradley pushed forward and a loose ball
fell to him outside their area, without hesitation Bradley
unleashed a fantastic shot which flew goalwards, hit the
angle of post and bar and back into play. Poacher Liam was
first to the rebound and poked it home 2-1.
The second half started the same as the
first, both teams playing good football with everyone
committed. Springfields kept up the pressure, desperate for
the equaliser, going close a number of times. As the game
went on the boys looked the stronger/fitter team and kept
pushing forward. Liam picked up on a long clearance from
Matthew, beat the defender in the race for the ball and
stroked the ball in, 3-1.
The goal seemed to knock the wind out of
the opposing players who given their all, but still they
kept pressing forward forcing Tommo to save some good
efforts. Liam pounced on a loose ball on the left, went on
one of his runs, rode 2 crunching tackles (one of which
resulted in their player being unfortunately carried off)
rounded the goalkeeper and scored, what a goal, 4-1, game
over.
An excellent game of football, very well
refereed and a pleasure to watch (much better than watching
our national team), well done boys, we need to keep it
going.
