Euxton Villa u10s 2 Tarleton Blue 0
The last game
seemed ages ago, and considering it was a defeat, would time
have reenergized the boys? Kick off was 12.30 which was
unusual for our home games, but perhaps the lie ins would
benefit everyone ? The boys kicked off , Tarelton midfield
seemed intent on ensuring our midfield trio of Liam Robert
and Barney would be denied any space and for the early
periods really pushed forward with Kyle and Matthew having
to be on their toes. Eventually we started getting our
passing game going with some really good approach work, but
the Tarleton defence were well versed in dealing with our
attacks. Tarleton too started to get their passing game
going and were playing some good football, going close with
a few good efforts, thankfully Tommo in goal was in super
form and produced some excellent saves. Still the boys kept
pushing forward and Tarletons keeper was tested on a number
of occasions. The game was evenly balanced and following
some excellent approach play , Robert put pressure on one
of their defenders in the box and managed to stroke the ball
home from close range, 1-0.
As expected Tarleton upped their game and
kept pushing forward looking for the equaliser, but despite
a few close shaves we went in at half time 1 up.
Second half found us kicking downhill and
against the wind, Tarelton made good use of the wind and
were producing some searching long balls, with their
midfield threatening to overrun ours. The game was still
evenly balanced with both keepers making excellent saves.
Liam twice latching onto through balls, going past the
keeper, but putting his final ball inches the wrong side of
the posts. The boys needed a second goal to ease the
tension/pressure (call it what you like) and we on the
touchlines equally hoping. Tarleton kept pushing forward,
with a result gaps were being left at their back. Liam
chased down a good ball on the left , gave 2 good tackles
and through sheer determination released a ball to Robert
unmarked in the box who gratefully slotted home 2 nil.
Still Tarelton kept coming forward and
were unlucky not to get a penalty when Kyle appeared to have
handled in the box (some you win some you lose) .
The game was played in excellent spirits
by both sets of boys and the teams were a credit to this
league. An excellent game of football enjoyed by all, and
the result means we are now in second place in the league
with 2 games in hand.
