Euxton Villa F.C - Match Report
   Euxton Villa  4 - 1  Myerscough

11am K.O. 4th March 2007

Final game of the season and the weather at Southlands did it’s worst but the Villa were about to do their best. Tom M was captain. The pitch had only got worse over the last 7 days so it was going to be hard going for the boys.

1st Half
Within a minute Myerscough showed exactly why they won last time, getting caught flat at the back a quick long ball was put through for the fast paced striker to run on to and bang 0-1 in 65secs.
The Villa have learned this season that getting down about it will not produce anything and so they picked themselves up and started to battle and with great spirit they got themselves back into the game winning a corner on 8mins.
Smithy and Sam had the first real shots on goal, Sam forcing the keeper to make a great save across his nets. Villa pressed on and whilst the Myerscough front line always looked dangerous when they broke, these opportunities were getting few and far between though. Then Sam won the ball, passed to a waiting Jamie G who passed one man to lay the ball off to the right for Ryan M who took the shot perfectly and scored. 1-1.15mins.
Greg & Danny came on after 22mins, Smithy and Sam going for a rest (sadly not a warm though).
A tough tackling midfield kept the pressure on Myerscough and won the second ball better then they had ever before (IMHO!), Alex remained steadfast in his now familiar role which allowed Kyle, Tom G & Danny to sit just behind a fierce Tom M & a hard working Jamie G.
Liam & Jamie A supported well and took the play out wide when they could and it was from a Liam Potter cross that created the 6 yard box scramble that finally paid off as Ryan M & Greg lunged at the ball on the line. Ryan’s foot got there first to secure a well earned second.2-1. 25mins.The whistle blew on 34mins.
Half Time 2-1

The management made the boys jump up and down, reminded them the freezing wind & rain were now at their backs and to get “stuck in” as they game wasn’t won.

2nd Half
Villa came out and continued as good as they had finished 5mins previously. Whilst Will had little to do in the 1st half half he kept alert and made a good save 5mins in. Ryan M & Liam came off for a rest as Sam & Smithy went back on after 6mins.Nerves were getting frayed on the sideline as another would give the Villa some respite from the battle. Sam won a corner on 7mins but that was as near as Villa got …until Jamie G picked up the ball on the left and launched a right footer that after taking a slight deflection looped into the top right corner of the net. 3-1. 15mins.
On 16mins a freezing Tom G came off with a gritty Jamie A and Ryan M & Liam came back on.
Now the Villa could relax ,just a little, and start to play as well as battle. The most stunning of which came on 22mins as Kyle passed to Sam down the right, Sam passed cross field in front of Greg to run onto, Greg took on one player committed him and laid the ball off to a waiting Ryan M who hit the post. Ok, no goal but from start to finish just awesome. It was all Villa for the last 8mins Myerscough pinned in their own half attempted everything to clear the ball and so, as just reward, it was Ryan M who took his first hat trick (and our’s for some time) on the death. 4-1. 31mins. The whistle blew to a jubilant crowd and a cheering reception.
Full Time 4-1

What a delight that is to write. Incredible fighting spirit, some glorious passing football on a slippy pitch and fantastic resilience in horrendous conditions. You really are stars and look out Summer Comps we have a new team in town. Simply superb boys , very very well done.
