Euxton Villa F.C - Match Report
  Euxton Villa  5 - 1  Gillibrand Warriors

 2pm Kick Off     19th November 2006

After a brilliant fighting display last week the Villa headed out to face Gillibrand. Tom M wore the captains armband. The crowd wore tears & sniffles to compliment their winter attire, the wind blew harsh on Astley Park. The pitch could have done with some harsh treatment of a different kind, it was not looking it’s best.

1st Half
A great start from Villa shocked the Warriors. This was going to be a hard game for them. Villa pushed on and put great pressure on the Warriors back four, Jamie G & Alex securing the ball in the middle of the park and pushing it forward to Greg & Smithy. Gillibrand held the line well and on more than one occasion the Villa were caught offside. Chances for Jamie A on the right and Sam could have been taken to the point of shooting but they chose to cross. The teams were matched on every part of the pitch.
When the Warriors did break free they were held firm by Liam, Tom G & Danny.
Tom M kept them organised and protected Will who had little to do. Warriors won their first corner on 9mins and it was dispatched without any fuss. Warriors broke free a little over half way through the half and a shot bounced off an orange arm in the area, the ref pointed to the spot. Warriors scored the penalty.1-0.18mins.
Alex came off injured and Rob went on.
It was a blow but the Villa carried on, tackle by tackle, pass by pass they battled.   Free kicks indicated it was hard but it was never dirty. Most of the play was down the right. Jamie A came off after 25mins and Ryan M went on. Will sent the ball down the right again and the Villa couldn’t keep the ball, it came straight back down the line finishing with a Warriors shot. 2-0. 28mins. The next goal was a replica.3-0. 30mins.
The whistle blew.

Half Time. 3-0.
The management were pleased with the effort just not the scoreline. It didn’t reflect the half and but for a little more concentration and fight in the last 5mins when the Warriors banged in 6 shots scoring with two identical moves the Villa would have been returning to the field only 1 goal down. Will was asked to slow down the delivery as the defence were not getting the time to recover and the ball was not being held up front. No changes were made.

2nd Half
The Villa started the half the same as the first one, tough and positive. Warriors won a corner and during it Tom G took a knock on the head and Kyle came on to replace him after 5mins.Sadly, Warriors struck again on the 11th minute. 4-0. Great credit to the Villa though, they did not let their heads drop, indeed, if anything, it spurred them on. Greg took a knock and had to come off after 13mins and Jamie A went back on pushing Ryan M into the middle with Smithy to the right of Sam. With both wingers back on Villa started to take Gillibrand apart and shots from Rob & Smithy could so easily have seen the scores almost level. It was a great piece of football that saw Jamie A run on into the box to score on 18mins.4-1.
Villa won their first corner of the game on 19mins. Jamie G launched it into the box and as Warriors broke out Sam chased back and halted their attack but got injured in the process and came off on 22mins. Alex had to go back on despite his injured knee. The game was all Villa until the 28th minute when a long ball secured the Warriors fifth and last goal of the game. The whistle blew dead on time despite the stoppages.

Full Time. 5-1
Once again boys we are proud of you. You showed great spirit today, a lucky bounce here, a bit more concentration there and a desire for the ball for the full 60mins and you would have come away with more than you did. As they say, that’s football. Let’s make doubly sure that we take the same game to Lancon that we have witnessed in the last two fixtures. Well done boys
