11am Kick Off 3rd December 2006
Southlands greeted the team with a strong wind blowing down
the pitch & the threat of rain, it was a bitter morning. Tom
M wore the captain’s armband.
1st Half
After a scary first 30 secs when Will had to dive full
length to make a great save the Villa made a bright start
and took the game to Penwortham. In the third attacking move
Smithy’s shot ran across the goal mouth and Greg picked the
ball up on the goal line passed back to Sam who picked out
Jamie G in space and Jamie G did what he does best and
launched a shot from the 18yrd area. Brilliant.1-0.
4mins.Against a strong wind the Villa did well to pick out
passes and Jamie A & Liam worked the ball down the right to
great effect. Jamie G, Sam & Greg all had near misses in the
next 10mins. Then, using the wind to good effect Penwortham
launched a long ball which was taken very well and they
equalised. 1-1.17mins
Penwortham had come back into the game and won their first
corner on 19mins, indeed they could have scored a second
after a poor clearance gave them the ball and Will the
opportunity to make another great save. Jamie A came off to
be replaced by Alex on 24mins.
Liam Potter then made the fantastic run down the right,
crossed to Greg who hit the post the ball came back out to
be met with a loud shout of “Sam’s” as he launched a great
shot to score Villa’s second.2-1. 25mins.
Penwortham hit back straight from the kick off and scored
literally 30secs after picking the ball out of their own
net.2-2.25mins (and a half!)
Penwortham had their best 5mins of the game and secured a
third on 28mins. 2-3. They just missed from a corner on
29mins
Half Time whistle blew.
Half Time. 2-3.
The management were pleased with both the effort and the
fact that we would be playing with the wind behind us in the
2nd half. It had been a great team effort & Villa were
unlucky to be a goal down. Tom G & Smithy were taken off and
Kyle & Ryan M came on.
2nd Half
The first 10mins were all Euxton and to be fair the
Penwortham keeper kept the score line the same especially
after Villa won the first corner on 5mins, Jamie G launched
a great corner in and Sam’s header was stopped on the line,
then cleared to a waiting Alex who hammered a shot in only
to be saved again. The Villa went un-rewarded. Rob came off
and Jamie A went back on. 6mins. Liam off Rob on. 13mins.
Ryan M & Sam switched places. 17mins. Tom M stayed strong at
the back and had halted many attacks but couldn’t keep the
fast paced Penwortham forwards at bay forever and they
scored on 20mins. 2-4. Then 22mins.2-5
The final whistle blew on a score line that didn’t reflect
the effort put in. That’s football.
Full Time. 2-5
Boy’s we are very proud of you, don’t let games like this
get you down, you did well, in some instances very well, you
are a very good team. Penwortham did very well to keep going
when they were behind.
