Euxton Villa v Charnock Richard
5th Sept 06 6.00pm K.O.
Given the time of day it was an unexpectedly
large crowd that gathered and sent the Villa into their
second match in 3 days. It really must inspire the team to
see such excellent & passionate support. The conditions were
just right and after a brief warm up the referee called the
teams to start.
First Half
Straight from the off Villa drove the game,
surging forward time after time holding their own defensive
line at half way and keeping the game in the Charnock half.
Great passing and good use of the wings resulted in Rob
putting Sam through who crossed to Greg and with a cool head
Greg slotted home the first of the game on 4mins. 0-1.
Alex & Tom M continued to dominate just
behind the centre circle winning the ball time after time
and using Rob & Tom G to spread the game wide. They in turn
used both the wings and the strength of the midfield to the
keep the pressure on Charnock. Shortly after a Charnock
clearance the ball came to Ryan who passed to Greg who in
turn passed to Sam who then ran passed two defenders and
slotted home the second on 8mins.
0-2.
Strong & skilful runs on the right from
Jamie G & Liam resulted in Charnock having little or no
answer as again Greg was found by a pass from Danny and
being in the middle of the area again he despatched the ball
with a crisp clean shot to clinch his 2nd) on
14mins.0-3
Greg scored again on 18mins with his first
hat trick (and not his last I think). 0-4
Sam volleyed home his 2nd goal on
20mins following Villa’s 1st corner.0-5 Greg then
finished the half scoring his 4th and final goal
on 33mins.0-6
Whilst most of the goals had come from the
left side in many cases the play had started in the middle
of the park or from one of Tom G’s customary crunching
tackles on the right. The ability of the team to pass through
the Charnock defence and find space on a relatively small
pitch should be a great confidence boost for the boys. They
are “getting it”. They stayed on side, crossed, shot,
covered, passed back, held the defensive line just like the
pro’s and more importantly everyone played their part. As
the team walked in following the long awaited half time
whistle they knew there was more to come.
Half Time
A delighted management welcomed the team and
asked the boys to further concentrate and not let slip the
advantage they had built up. Changes were made
Smithy, Max & Kyle took to the pitch to
directly replace Greg, Sam, & Rob, who were to rest after
having such a devastating effect on the left, Danny made way
for Jamie who positioned himself outside of Jamie G on the
right.
2nd Half
The boys took to the pitch in the same
confident manner they had left and in no time at all had
Charnock on the back foot. Credit to Charnock 4mins in they
started to exert the first bit of pressure on the Euxton
back four. Alex, Tom M, Tom G & Kyle dealt with everything
thrown at them in a clean and forthright manner. The
Charnock pressure resulted in their first corner at 7mins
and their first real shot on 8mins. Will held it well.
This lasted another 5mins then, from a well
built break, the ball found Smithy who ran on to clinch his
first.13mins 0-7.
Ryan had now moved into the centre forward
position and led the attack on more than one occasion. The
midfield held the ball on every occasion and after winning
the first corner of the half Jamie G launched the ball into
the area were a fantastic header from Smithy found the net
on 20mins.0-8.
This effectively took the last fight from
Charnock's legs as the rest of the half became a tale of
missed chances and offside decisions. Villa had a goal
disallowed for offside following a shot from Liam being
cleared by the keeper in to the path of Jamie G on 22mins.
On 23mins an almost identical move resulted in a goal for
Jamie 0-9.
Charnock made one last attempt on the Villa
goal and Will made an excellent save but his quick thinking
throw out to Tom G who passed to Jamie who ran the line
making a perfectly timed pass to Jamie G who ran on to
secure a well earned goal on 28mins.0-10.
Full Time
How good was that?
More importantly, it was the equal effort and
skill shown by each and every player that impressed today.
The passing, communication & determination were visible in
every tackle and every move. It has to be noted that
Charnock had shown that given the chance they had 2 or 3
players in the middle of the park that could have caused the
Villa some problems, however they were well contained
today. 4 points from 6 but more importantly ….stylish &
confident play. Who’s next then?

If the flow of the game report is a little disjointed I
apologise but whoever finds my notes is more than welcome to
