Euxton Villa F.C - Match Report

Myerscough Juniors V Euxton Villa       11am K.O.      21st October 2006

A cool Autumnal morning greeted the Villa party & after a lengthy walk to the pitch, a warm up & team talk, the players faced up to an unbeaten side. Tom M was captain.

1st Half

Straight from the off Myerscough looked lively and they capitalised on this after only 90 secs by scoring. It has to be said that it was a soft goal to concede but it was a goal none the less.1-0

The Villa looked a little shell shocked and couldn’t take the sting out of the Myerscough forward line and after some panic & poor clearing Myerscough took another chance on 6mins.2-0. The second of two “soft” goals.

Villa started to play the game, Will made a good save and Myerscough were awarded the first corner of the game on 9mins.This was defended well and Alex cleared the retaken corner.

Villa got more into the game however it was again in fits & starts and the first shot on the Myerscough goal wasn’t until 14mins when Sam should have won a corner when it deflected off a defender. Villa had a bit of a purple patch when Tom M won the ball passed to Liam who in turn passed to Jamie G, after some good battling Greg won the ball and planted a firm shot to earn Villa their first goal on 17mins.3-1

Myerscough form the off took the game back to Villa lobbing Will and forcing Alex to make yet another clearance from the box. In a tough, but fair game it was surprising that it took 23mins to elapse before Villa won the first free kick of the game.

Kyle was moved forward to sit “in the hole” and with some good link up play between Danny & Jamie the Villa seemed to be balancing the play a little more. Myerscough seemed the more determined when going forward winning a series of corners from 26mins on and scoring from one of them on 30mins.4-1.

Villa won a corner on 33mins and the half time whistle blew.

Half Time

The team were asked what they thought and whilst the management tried to encourage them they couldn’t argue with the score line.

The management asked the team to keep the structure, again.

Substitutions were made at half time.

Sam off, Kyle off, Jamie G off.

Max on, Tom G on, Ryan M on.

2nd Half

Much of the same really, the Villa played well at times but couldn’t keep up the consistency. Myerscough scored after 3 mins.5-1.

Greg battled well to score an individual goal on 20mins.5-2.

Myerscough hit the bar on 27mins and the final whistle blew.

Full time

First game of the new league, hopefully the Villa will steal themselves for the rest and not let this get them down.

Villa battled well but continually let themselves down with bad passing when under pressure, without this they are a match for any team in the league and this is shown at times.

Boys, don’t wait for the ball …..go and get it!

Discuss this game in the Villa Room!!
