Sunday 17th
September
Chorley St
Greggs V Euxton Villa
Under 14s
Premier League.
Once again the good weather prevailed as we arrived at
the pitches ready to play a good game of football. Kitted
out and ready for action, the lads made their way to the
pitch; sorry field… no it was the pitch? Badly cut grass and
little mounds of dry deposits lay all around, surrounding us
like seaweed on Blackpool beach. It was quickly identified
that playing good football would be a difficult task and
passing would be tricky.
The manager took control of the situation by giving the
lads his pre-match pep talk advising on appropriate play for
the conditions that they found themselves in.
Pitch aside, the lads lost the toss and Chorley kicked
off to start play. Euxton quickly got into attack mode but
the amount of bobbling on the floor quickly saw the ball
picked up again by Chorley. Settling down to conditions,
both teams made the best of a bad pitch and got stuck into a
hard game showing grit and determination. Euxton got many
shots off on goal but unfortunately failed to capitalize,
ending the first half 0-0 but creating many nail biting
moments.
Nothing changed much in the second half with play, apart
from the ball appeared to be much more in the air. Using
some fresh legs and muscle power in the second half moved
Euxton forward again. Some good control and quick passes
from the lads kept the ball in attack mode, as a cross came
in from midfield a good header beat the goalie, 0-1. It
wasn’t long after when another deep kick from Euxtons
defence to midfield was utilized and another goal was
converted, 0-2. Chorley then took advantage of a throw in
that was missed kicked by our defence and lifted the ball
over Euxtons goalie to claim their only goal1-2.
Euxton on occasion managed to put a few good moves
together but due to the pitch conditions a good game was
impossible. Undoubtedly, if Euxton would have been able to
demonstrate their full potential I am sure that the goal
result would have reflected the game more.
