2007 Cup Semi final
Euxton hosted the
cup semi final at Runshaw Hall Lane. These teams are
currently joint top of the premier league and are evenly
matched and so the prospect of an entertaining match drew a
big crowd (circa 200).
The game kicked off
in glorious sunshine and soon developed into a typical cup
semi final. I don’t think either side were at their best,
Euxton certainly weren’t, but what the game lacked in terms
of total football it more than made up for in terms of
tension and competitive effort.
Euxton took the lead
after 6 minutes. A free kick was awarded just short of 30
yards from goal and Craggy stepped up to take it. At this
age most would expect the ball to be put into the box for
the forwards to challenge for. Craggy had other ideas and
hit a screamer into the top corner. You will do well to find
a better striker of a dead ball at U12 level and he
delivered again.
The rest of the half
saw Cadley have more of the possession but Euxton containing
the pressure well.
The second half had
plenty of good performances from the Euxton side, not least
the back 3 who were again immense. With 8 minutes to go
Steven, who had got more and more possession, hit a perfect
through ball for Josh to run onto to. He drew the keeper and
finished in some style.
All that was needed
was that we kept things tight for the last few minutes,
which we did despite Cadley pressure. One goal was
disallowed that was clearly offside but other than that
Matty did not have to make a save.
It was a great
performance on a hard pitch and Euxton rightly take their
place in the Cup Final.
