Euxton hosted the
visit of local neighbours Leyland Albion needing to build on
the promising league position, with still over a quarter of
the season to play.
We got off to a
great start when Connor got onto the end of a fine cross
from Lewis to score after just 3 minutes. However the hopes
of coming in at half time with the match sewn up were laid
to rest by a hardworking Leyland side and some wasted
opportunities from Euxton. As a result it was a frustrating
half to watch as the boys showed plenty of energy but could
not break the Leyland side down.
We needed to start
the second half well but actually got hit on the break by
our opponents. Their two forwards Marland and Groves had
combined well all match and after a missed tackle carved out
an opening in the box that was well finished.
Euxton needed to
step up a gear, which they were more than capable of doing,
but the concern was that Leyland had got something to hang
onto and would fight hard to keep it.
Thankfully Steven
came up with the goods when we needed it (a good habit that
he has got into) with a great strike from the edge of the
box.
It was another hard
fought win but Leyland deserve credit for their approach to
the game. They are capable of taking points of any team and
have some good players in their squad.
