Euxton Villa F.C - Match Report

Appley Bridge 1 Euxton Villa 5

 17th April 07

Given our fixture backlog we were grateful that Appley Bridge were able to arrange this fixture at short notice. Following the continued dry spell the pitch was bone hard and that didn’t help either side play football.

Euxton were on top for most of the first half, with just the occasional Appley Bridge break from sustained play in there half. The AB club played the offside trap very well and caught us out on a number of occasions. The goalkeeper made a number of good saves to keep us out.

The first goal came after 25 minutes when Connor controlled the ball inside the box and finished well. Three minutes later Jack stayed up from a corner and put a well-placed shot into the corner.

2 – 0 up at half time was decent scoreline and enabled us to concentrate on passing and moving more in the second half. We did see some better phases of football and as a result carved out a number of good chances but our finishing let us down.

On 57 minutes Josh latched onto a great ball from Steven and hit a fantastic shot past the goalkeeper – for the third consecutive match he had produced a great finish.

Then Dominic scored with a firm shot from outside the area (much to his obvious relief as he got a run in midfield) and after some good work by the forwards James D capped another good hardworking display with a tap in.

In the closing minutes AB scored a goal with a well-hit shot from outside the area that dipped under the bar.

Another win and some good football played in parts though the finishing of the chances we created left a bit to be desired.
