Match Report U12s vs Leyland Albion LFA
Cup 29th October
Having beaten Leyland Albion convincingly
just 4 weeks earlier there was always going to be a danger
of Euxton falling into the trap of just turning up to win.
Coupled with the fact that Leyland were bound to show
determination not to be so easily beaten, and that on there
day any team in the premier league can beat any other meant
that this had the hallmarks of a banana skin.
Things got off to a good start when
Steven opened the scoring on 18 minutes. However a series of
missed chances followed and against the run of play Leyland
got back on level terms.
Coming in level at half time seemed to
spur Leyland on and the second half was much more even.
Despite this Euxton had chances to win it but we finished at
1-1 in full time.
Going into extra time Euxton looked on
top but Leyland worked incredibly hard to keep us out, and
the Leyland forwards were beginning to push us back.
Leyland scored in the second period of
extra time after some scrappy defending by Euxton lead to a
chance that was well taken by the Euxton forward. The
Leyland supporters were right behind their team at this
point and Euxton had it all to do.
Thankfully Leyland tried to sit on their
lead and the Euxton team started to get down the flanks
more. Whilst Euxton had been on top throughout and deserved
to be ahead we were relieved to see Lewis meet a ball that
dropped in the box and equalise with just 3 minutes to play.
And so to the dreaded penalties.
Thankfully the Euxton players kept their heads and took good
penalties and Matty did the business with 3 great saves to
ensure that Euxton won 3 –1.
Credit must go to Leyland Albion who came
to the game determined to prove that they were better than
the result of 4 weeks ago and they did. Euxton learned some
lessons today about concentrating on one game at a time –
fortunately it did not cost us our place in the LFA Cup.
