Can’t keep saying
that was the worst yet, but that indeed was the worst yet.
Established players let their manager down, let the club
down, and of course let themselves down, and if that rant
makes me sound like a headmaster, then I make no apology.
Eagley themselves have struggled to get anything going in
the league this season, but we made them look like world
beaters. We hardly won a header at the back all day, against
a side that is not exactly the tallest in the division, and
if their keeper is any good, well we’ll never know because
we failed to test him in any meaningful way. And even
although one of the liners took against us, the referee did
his best, even giving us a dubious penalty, but, although I
would like to say the keeper made a spectacular save, it was
more like catching a back-pass.
Had we scored that,
or had the open goal tap in been taken, instead of which a
fresh air shot let them off the hook, then things might,
might, have been different. Even though the third goal
was yards off-side, by that time the match had gone and it
was academic.
The general
consensus in the supporters bus was that Matt Conway, Elliot
Dunn and David Heald as usual gave their all, and should be
excused the wrath, and that the returning from injury Tom
Whittaker and Stuart Bingham both did well, even though they
were both taken off whilst others left on were clearly
clueless. As for the rest – I don’t think any could complain
if not selected next time out.
Villa Line-up:
Gibbs, C.Chambers (Woodman), Davies, Dickinson, L.Chambers,
Bingham (Lilley), M.Conway, Whittaker (Woodman), Dunn,
Atherton, Heald
