After 5 weeks of not playing a match the Blacks finally got
their season running again with a home match to New Longton
who are doing well in the league. Illness and Injury meant
that Dylan and Matthew were missing so Aedan and Jack D came
into midfield.
New Longton started the brighter and got on top in midfield
and created two good chances. Euxton created a couple of
chances of their own but the passing game hadn't started and
it was no surprise that New Longtons striker opened the
scoring went a mistake left him free inside the box.
This spurred Euxton on and Jack H and Daniel both had good
shots saved by the New Longton keeper. The last 5 minutes of
the first half became all Euxton and three outstanding saves
by the keeper kept Jack H from opening the scoring.
At half time the Blacks were frustrated but knew that they
had the advantage of the slope in the second half and were
encouraged to pass and move to make use of it. This the
certainly tried to do, but to be honest there was lots of
endevour but not much flair to the play. The persistance
though finally paid off when a great run by Jack and support
from Aedan set up Daniel at the far post to push home the
equaliser.
The relief from the Euxton support at finally getting back
on terms was short lived because almost straight away a back
pass in midfield fell way short and presented the ball to
the New Longton striker who promptly attacked the box and
scored with a flourish.
Euxton made a change and brought Jamie on for Jack D and he
made some good tackles in midfield. Euxton pushed and pushed
for the equalizer and the keeper and some determined
defending, kept them out. It was beginning to look like it
was going to be one of those days until Aedan had one of
those moments that will live in his family folklore. An
attack and cross down the right was cleared by the New
Longton defence and fell to Aedan just inside the opposition
half. He hit a first time strike that looped into the air
and dipped just under the cross bar to equalise. It was
going to take a strike like that to beat the keeper today.
Fired on there was just time for Daniel and Jack H to
combine down the right and present Jack with a one on one
with the keeper which he finished with real class.
Great credit to the team for working extremely hard right to
the end. We were far from our best but got the 3 points when
a draw was probably a fair result. The New Longton players
deserve credit for their contribution to a good match.
Man of the match for tireless running (despite suffering
with his chest) and a class finish - Jack H
