Euxton welcomed back both Dylan and
Matthew from injury and illness for this cup tie away at
Penwortham. This looked like a very interesting tie as both
teams are currently top of their respective leagues and
Penwortham had beaten Lancon who the Blacks put out in a
tight game in the last round.
Euxton got on top right from the
off with Daniel , Dylan and Jack H creating chances in the
opening couple of minutes but the keeper made good saves.
When Penwortham attacked Ben and Luke looked back to the
good understanding they have had and worked well in
partnership to keep them out.
Jack H was clearly out to
impressive his watching Grandad and was covering every part
of the pitch with his running and passing. He deserved the
two great goals he scored in the first half to bring Euxton
in 2-0 up at half time.
The instruction at half time was
more of the same because the Blacks were well on top and
Daniel and Dylan had both had good attempts well saved by
the keeper. At the other end Penwortham had one great shot
which Aarbaaz did well to save.
In the second half Daniels movement
and dribbling skills were even more evident and he was
cutting through the Penwortham defence. Most impressively
though he always got his head up and made a pass to a
colleague when a less intelligent footballer would have been
tempted to constantly score themselves. His work set up a
goals for Jack and Aedan
Ben and Luke had a rest and a new
defensive pairing of Matt and Jack D was introduced . Jack
then took a free kick from half way into the Penwortham half
and with everyone expecting a cross he planted a shot into
the top cormer. Even on the small pitch this was still a
great strike. Penwortham then got a consolation goal with a
great strike of their own.
Aedan then continued his run of
wonder goals by heading a great corner into the Penwortham
net. He was promptly withdrawn at the risk of getting dizzy.
Thomas replaced Jack H and played
wide. Jamie came into midfield and worked really hard and
tackled even harder. His persistency set up the seventh goal
when he won two tackles and the ball came to Dan whose cross
was diverted into his own net by an unfortunate Penwortham
defender. It goes down as Daniel’s goal – it was the least
he deserved for a great display of forward play.
We had great performance across the
team today – Aarbaaz made two good saves, Ben and Luke
looked solid defensively and passed the ball well out of
defence. It was good to have Dylan’s energy back in
midfield and Aedan passed the ball as well as he has ever
done. Daniels movement was outstanding and Jack H was
terrific. Jack D, Matthew , Jamie and Thomas all contributed
to a great team display full of team spirit.
Man of the Match was awarded to
Kurt for his support to the team
