We’re Wide Awake..................
Who would have
thought that a midday kick off would see 10 boys still half
asleep dreaming of the X-Factor and Strictly Come Dancing
glory instead of the game.
With the visit of
Cockerham to the Villa, the boys decided that they would
keep Coach, Rafa and the Reporter guessing as to whom they’d
actually selected to play today, 10 sleepy heads that need
Timmy Mallets “Mr Mallet!” to wake them up.
The pace should
have been set from the get-go with a blistering sequence of
passes from the kick off which saw Oliver clear on goal only
to miss queue what should have been goal number one. The
frustration should have been eased with an early goal to
calm those nerves on the sidelines from some spirited work
from the midfield to see Kallan slot home 1 nil.
Cockerham showed
some good touches and kept the pressure on the Oranges for
most of the first half, with mistake after mistake creeping
in to the match from the Villa end. Without their usual
fluid play Villa where making this a hard day’s game, but
the pressure was eased somewhat when Oliver managed to take
his chance and slot number two in. Half time could not come
soon enough and Coach laid down the law in his usual vocal
self and didn’t give any quarter to all 10 players
Into the second
half and although it started bright enough, Cockerham had
the first key break with an own goal by Villa to bring to
game to 2-1, this was the ALARM Call which woke all 10 up.
From the restart it
was like they’d realised they were playing football and the
fluidity of passing and moving started to return, they were
finding the spaces and peppering the keeper with attempt
after attempt on goal.
Within the space of
the remaining minutes the Oranges had changed the shape of
the game and had progressed to a more realistic score-line
of 6-1 to bring home the win and remain on top of the league
with a game in hand on their nearest rivals.
Today’s scorers:
Kallan, Oliver (2), Connor (3)
Today’s Man of the Match: Oliver – for work rate and putting
the spark into the second half. |
