Tremendous Villa Triumph at the Reebok

A memorable week for Euxton Villa Football Club
as they added the Goldline Trophy to their bulging cabinet. And what a night,
Villa dominated the first half with goals coming by the way of an own goal and a
cooly struck effort from David Heald, once again Ross Baxter who was outstanding
all through the game pulled off another remarkable penalty save. Charnock
pressed hard in the 2nd half but the Villa back four remained resolute and were
outstanding on the night. A very big thank you goes to all the travelling
supporters from Euxton who remained very vocal throughout the game and inspired
the team on. Congratulations go to the whole squad and a big hand must go to
Manager Mark McDonnell and coach Roger Leigh who have taken this club onto
another level over the past ten years or so.
Congratulations Euxton
Villa
Dramatic
late scenes in the final of the Amateur Shield as Euxton Villa ran out worthy
champions albeit on penalties in the final of this prestigious competition. A
goal 3 mins from the end of extra time for Wigan Robin Park looked to have
broken the Villa hearts but this Villa side kept going to the end and with 30
seconds left on the clock Phil Woodman drove an unstoppable effort into the
corner to send the tie into a penalty shootout. Could Ross Baxter in the Villa
nets once again pull off his remarkable run of saving penalties...you bet he
could and the last save was outstanding. Well done to all the players and
management, a credit to the club...now lets make it a double.
