Amateur Shield Round One
Euxton Villa 5 - 1 Contract City Services
F.C
Today Villa entertained
visitors C.C.S. from Lancaster in the first round of the
Amateur Shield.
The tone for this game was set
as early as the 17th second when good work down the
right saw Gutteridge for Villa cut inside and unleash a
powerful effort which thundered off the crossbar and out to
safety….game barely started and that’s how the rest of the
match followed, as one sided a match witnessed down at Runshaw
for many a year.
The first goal came in the 5th
minute and it was in form Gutteridge who latched onto a good
through ball and slotted home.
Despite Euxton’s total
dominance it took until the 32nd minute to increase
their lead with Gutteridge one on one with the keeper which
was well saved only for the ball to fall at Lilley’s feet who
squared for Stewart for a simple tap in.
A little frustration had crept
into Villa’s game after the 16th offside decision
had been given in the opening half, most looked correct though
and with the pace Villa possessed, there was no real need to
keep being caught. HT 2-0
The second half continued in
much the same pattern with Euxton continuing to dominate, too
many chances were both, created and missed to write about with
a variety of Villa players guilty of missing very good
chances.
At the other end the crowd
were being entertained by Johnson in the Villa goal, basically
a spectator himself, to some strange work outs.
Once again though Villa
struggled to put the game behond the visitors reach and it
wasn’t until the 70th minute when Heald finally
poked one home to seal the tie. Nine mins later and Stewart
got his 2nd and Villa’s fourth when he ran onto a
through ball from Gutteridge and gave the keeper no chance.
Whilst Villa were cruising to
a good win despite all the missed chances it was clear they
wanted a clean sheet and the disappointment was clearly heard
when CCS grabbed a consolation in the 83rd minute
when a VILLA player nutmegged a CCS forward in the wrong
direction into the path of the right winger (who would have
been well offside) who then put in an inch perfect cross which
was met by Kilifin for CCS to head powerfully home.
Despite the customary ‘home
linesman rollicking’ Villa continued to press and Stewart
grabbed his hat trick and Villa’s fifth in the dying seconds
to give a more emphatic scoreline.
A comfortable win for Villa
who now progress to the next round, they produced some
excellent football at times keeping the ball on the move for
much of the game, the worry has to be the finishing despite
the five goals because, with great respect to today’s
opponents, the many missed chances would dearly cost them
against stronger opposition.
So a good week concluded for
Villa after a lot of dealings in the transfer market with some
excellent signings made, selection problems looming, who’d be
a manager.
On a sad note Euxton saw the
departure of forward Tom Cahill who has moved onto Kirkham &
Wesham, Tom, who came through the junior ranks at Villa made
his mark almost instantly when moving through to the seniors
with excellent work rate and some wonderful goals, we all wish
Tom all the very best for the future and hope to see him back
sometime in the future.
Line up
Johnson, Farley, Bolton, Dowling, Heald,
Gutteridge (Clarkson 80), Loughlin, Swift, Stewart, Lilley
