Euxton Villa 18 AFC Moorlands 0
Plucky Moorlands made the journey from Lancaster in this
Amateur Shield second round tie knowing that they were
stepping up a couple of levels. Nevertheless, buoyed by a good
win in the first round, they came determined to have a go and
at least make a day out of it. Villa were on a bit of a hiding
to nothing, but to their credit they treated the match with
due seriousness and kept going for the full 90 minutes. Kevin
McCarroll in the visitors goal can count himself unlucky as he
distinguished himself with a series of fine stops.

Manager Mark McDonnell used the opportunity to try a few
variations in line-up and formation, but in truth it was not a
day from which many lessons could be drawn. Safely through to
the next round then, where the Villa faithful will be pleased
to settle for a more modest victory.
For the record I made the scorers as follows - Heald 6,
Stewart 5, Gutteridge 2, Lilley 2, Swift 1, Salisbury 1.
Curwen 1 Anyone who disagrees is welcome to debate via the
Villa Talk page of our website.
Two things we did learn from the day –
-
The deputy
assistant grounds person / chief mower operative knows even
less than we thought.
-
Parky
attracts abuse no matter which side he lines for.
Villa line-up: -
Johnston, Pennington, Davies, Bolton (Bradley 45), Salisbury,
Heald, Farley, Swift, Curwen, (Stewart 45) Lilley Gutteridge
(Loughlin 45),
