13th August 2006
Poulton Town (0) 0
Euxton Villa (0) 2
This game was won due to solid
defending, the Villa back four of Craig Chambers, James
O'Loughlin, Ross Dickinson and Daniel Walker were
outstanding throughout the match.
On a day of very windy
conditions Villa started kicking against the wind and
adapted to the conditions very well, Anton Martin made his
debut and caused the Poulton defence problems all afternoon,
he was unlucky not to score after five minutes when he hit
the crossbar with a strong shot. Liam Conway following up
also nearly put the rebound into the net.
Both sides were trying to play
football and given the windy conditions put on a great
display which was enjoyed by all the spectators. Villa came
close to scoring after 30 minutes when Sean Parkin picked
out Liam Conway whose cross was picked up by Mick Bradshaw
who was unlucky to see his shot hit the side netting, on 35
minutes Sean Parkin again fed Liam Conway who won a corner,
from which Graham Chatterly came close. Three minutes later
Villa came even closer as from a corner Ross Dickinson saw
his header saved on the line, James O'Loughlin followed up
and his shot was also kicked off the line.
On 40 minutes a good run from
skipper Craig Chambers produced a chance for Graham
Chatterly who shot just over the bar, two minutes later
Poulton had their best chance of the half when a shot hit
the top of the Euxton bar.
From the start of the second
half Villa now had the advantage of the wind and came close
on 47 minutes when Graham Chatterly nearly beat the Poulton
keeper with a lob shot, Villa were now starting to press the
home side back, and Anton Martin came close following a good
run from Liam Conway.Villa took the lead on 60 minutes when
Graham Chatterly picked up the ball just outside the area
and commenced a mazy run into the box culminating with a low
shot into the bottom corner.
The home side went to three at
the back as they went in search of an equaliser, this
allowed Villa to catch them on the break, and this nearly
brought a second goal on 72 minutes when Anton Martin shot
over the bar.The game was settled on 82 minutes when Sean
Parkin picked up the ball about 30 yards out and hit a
screamer into the top corner, the Poulton keeper got a hand
to the ball but was never going to keep it out.
Three valuable away points
gained with another very composed performance, special
mention for stand in keeper Nick Baker who turned in a very
composed display.
