Croston Sports 3 Euxton
Villa 7
In the interest of getting a
game played, both managers and the referee agreed to play
this game despite the pitch being soaked. It was only just
playable and it was clear that with standing water in
patches there was going to be difficulties for both sides to
overcome.
Euxton went ahead after just 3
minutes when an attack and shot by Dominic fell to Lewis on
the line to finish. Within a minute it was two when Josh
went past his marker and delivered a great cross for Connor
to finish.
Croston scored 2 minutes later
when a hopeful punt up field was not dealt with by the
Euxton defence. This allowed the Croston forward a shot that
normally Matty would save but the very slippy conditions
enabled it to squirm across the line.
Euxton restored their lead
within a minute Dominic going on a strong run down the right
and hitting a powerful shot into the corner. 4 goals within
the first 7 minutes said more about the defenders
difficulties turning than the quality of football played.
After 13 minutes a well
delivered corner by Croston allowed the big centre forward
to bundle the ball across the line with the Euxton defence
static.
Euxton then scored 2 goals from
outside of the box . First Matthew hit a hard drive to beat
the goalkeeper to his right then Josh hit a perfect chip
beating him to his left. Both were shots of real quality.
5 - 2 up at half time meant that
the game was won and really the Euxton players and
supporters wanted to turn straight around to get the match
ended and get out of the persistant rain.
Croston started the second half
better and scored after some determined play by them and
indecision by Euxton. For a few minutes Croston's spirits
were up and they worked hard to get another.
However after 48 minutes
Connor hit his second and the scoring was completed on 57
minutes by Dominic who curled a great shot into the top
corner. In between the Croston goalkeeper had made a number
of good saves and had been brave coming to collect 50/ 50
balls.
This was not a pitch to play
football on and that did not suit Euxton's passing game. In
effect the side that were stronger physically and got the
ball wide and then into the box early were always going to
win - it wasn't pretty . Euxton deserved the points because
they did that, but Croston worked hard throughout the match
which was played in a great spirit by both sides.
This was not a match that will
go down in the memory - other than how wet we all were .
From Euxton's point of view it was good to win , great to
get all the subs on , and getting home in to the warm was a
relief.
