Euxton Villa 4 Walton West End 2
This was the
first game after the Easter break which was played in good
spring weather that was perfect for football. In this game
we saw the Jekyl and Hyde of Euxton Villa U11's.
Euxton
started brightly and WWE conceded an early foul. Craggy
delivered a a good free kick which George attacked well only
to see the attempt go over. There was some brilliant first
half football played with Josh combining well with Craggy
down the left. Craggy was winning everything and Josh
combined well with Lewis and Connor. During one move Josh
slotted a great ball through to Connor only for the ball to
run away from him and the WWE keeper made a brave save.
Euxton were pressing and a goal was not far away.
On 10 minutes
Josh put in some great work and hit a good shot which was
saved by the WWE keeper. The ball fell to Connor who hit a
good shot into the bottom left hand corner for 1 - 0.
The game
became more competitive with WWE stepping up their game.
Despite WWE 'digging in' Euxton strung some great passes
together with Josh, Myles, Connor, Lewis, Steven, Craggy and
Dom all combining well. This was Euxton at their best. All
that was lacking....were goals. We did not need very long
to wait for our second..!
Next came a
great end to end goal. Matty cleared the ball which was
picked up by Myles who controlled the ball well and started
a string of passes between Dom, Connor and Lewis. Lewis
connected nicely to hit a low shot past the WWE keeper for 2
- 0.
At this point
WWE picked up again and Euxton switched off at times to the
point of being quite 'flat.' However, Euxton did manage
some good attempts on goal with Craggy hitting the bar and
Myles and Connor having shots saved towards the end of the
first half.
Now for the
second half...enter stage left, Mr Hyde..!
The second
half started with some scrappy football and Euxton found it
hard to find their passing rhythm. This was, in all
fairness, due to WWE digging deep and working hard. At the
same time Euxton made it hard for themselves with a complete
lack of communication. As a result Euxton found it very
hard to clear their lines positively. Despite this on 42
minutes Dom hit a good ball through to Josh who met and hit
a great shot into the roof of the net for 3 - 0. A smashing
finish and shades of Euxtons Dr Jekyl returning..!
Straight fom
the kick off WWE hit back. Euxton failed to clear their
defensive line mainly through lack of communication and the
WWE number 5 got hold of the ball and slotted past the
advancing Matty. WWE tails were up and they saw a glimmer
of hope during a poor spell for Euxton.
At this point
Euxton made a series of substitutions with James D, Joe and
Jack W coming on for Josh, Myles and George respectively.
On 20 minutes
Euxton forced a corner which Dom hit high across and into
the WWE box. Connor met it sweetly with a first time left
foot volley which he directed high into the WWE net despite
a good attempt to save by the WWE keeper. This was a super
finish to make it 4 - 1, giving Euxton a three goal
cushion. At this point further changes were made with Sammy
and Olly coming on for James G and Lewis.
As the game
continued, Euxton never really found their good first half
form. The lads seemed 'flat' at times and a clear lack of
talking allowed WWE to take advantage. This they did
through a good spell of pressure which needed Matty to save
from a WWE free kick and generally clear up the loose ball.
After another half clearance from Euxton the WWE number 10
took advantage and despite Matty 'standing big' he slotted
the ball into the Euxton net to make it 4 - 2.
The final
whistle blew for a good 4 - 2 win through two very different
halves of football. During the first half supporters saw
spells of Euxton at their very best with some excellent
football played. It was also good that the full Euxton
squad was utilised on the day. However, Euxton could have
been punished during the second half which apart from two
fine Euxton goals saw some pretty lack lustre football
played.
With the cup
final looming we will need a complete game played to this
games first half standards to keep a 'hungry' Ladybridge
side quiet. This is something that we all know the lads can
do. Come on the Villa...lets hit top form for Fridays cup
final..!!!
