Euxton Villa 4 Gregson Lane 0
This was a competitive and
even game for two-thirds of the match - although Euxton
always had the edge.
The first half was full of
effort from both sides and with plenty of skills on show.
The game was played in the Gregson Lane half for periods
of time but , despite a number of chances being created,
we seemed to be putting our shots straight at the GL
keeper. When they broke out GL were strong with the front
two giving Euxton's defence plenty to think about . In
fact a fine save from Matthew from close range was needed
to keep the scores level - particularly pleasing as
Matthew was not fully fit .
It is rare in boys football to
see 0 - 0 at half time and that says a lot about both
teams organisation and commitment.
On 43 minutes Euxton got the
breakthrough when Connor timed his run to meet an
wonderful corner from Matthew to hit a smart finish.
Gregson Lane worked hard to create chances to get back
onto level terms but the Euxton defence worked well to
keep shots to a minimum.
With the Euxton midfield
holding their shape better in the second half , we started
to press GL back and after 50 minutes Connor scored his
second with a well taken shot. At 2 - 0 the game looked
safe and we seemed to be getting on top of the opposition
more. On 54 minutes Connor span off his marker and put a
great shot into the top corner. A fine way to complete a
well deserved hat trick.
In injury time Joseph , who
had made a strong appearance as a subsitute on the right
wing , got onto the end of a passing move and hit a fierce
shot that deflected off a GL defender and hit the net.
Overall a really good
performance against a strong team. We were pleased with
the way the boys kept their shape and the talking
continues to improve.
