This game was the opening game
of the season and was always going to be tough as Tarleton
had won their preliminary league convincingly but had
fielded a weakend side for the last 2 games which they had
lost.
Today they were at full
strength and only a win would keep them on track for
league honours.
The game started fast and
furious with some good flowing football and hard tackling
in all areas. It wasn't until midway through the first
half that the deadlock was broken. a poor clearance in
midfield dropped to a Tarleton player who delivered a neat
pass the centre forward who gave Matty Wilson no chance
1-0.
The Villa went straight up
field and Connor scored from the edge of the box 1-1.
within a couple of minutes Lewis latched onto a poor
clearance and stoked the ball under the flailing
keeper.2-1
After the break a good
meandering run resulted with a Tarleton player being
upended in the box which resulted in a penalty.2-2
The Villa then received a
penalty which the keeper saved but Connor scored on the
rebound. This also resulted with Tarleton player being
sent off for dissent.3-2.Shortly after Connor scored again
4-2
Even at 4-2 the game was still
wide open and both teams worked hard for more goals.
fortunately they came Villas way and the game finish 6-2
The pleasing thing about the
game is that when we fell behind we worked hard and played
some attractive football.
Well done boys and well
done to Connor scoring 5 goals and Lewis scoring 1.
