20th November 2005

Euxton Villa 6  Croston Juniors  0

Euxton returned to something like their best form in this match and continued the strong start to the season. The match was played in cold conditions but overall the pitch was in good shape despite the weather. Myles was unfit to play and so we made a couple of changes with Dominic coming into inside right and Lee playing wide right.

We got off to a great start when, following great work by Lee on the right, the ball fell to Dominic at the edge of the box. He hit a crashing shot which came off the underside of the crossbar and Connor reacted first to shoot us into the lead.

On 8 minutes Matthew received the ball just outside the box and hit a well placed curling shot into the corner.

The rest of the half was in the main played in Croston's half , though the defence had to be alert to breakouts. At times we had them pinned back but the final pass or run of the ball didn't work for us. We had chances but the Croston team defended with spirit and it was fairly even at times. In the centre of midfield we were winning lots of tackles and Steven and Dominic were dominant but from goal kicks they were playing "After You Claude"  when they should have been heading it and so were making things hard for themselves.

Just before half time a foul just outside the box gave Matthew the chance for a shot at goal. He hit it well to the side of the wall and it came to Steven who finished it well.

3 - 0 at half time and the parents and management could relax after the last 2 weeks tense affairs.

We started the second half brightly but were pleased to Matty make a good save to keep out a firm shot from Croston. He had not had a lot to do but kept his concentration well. Then after 43 minutes Josh got end of the a good move to finish from a tight angle. By now we were totally dominant and 5 substitutions were made. All of the boys who came on did well for us.

On 48 minutes Tom scored with a hard shot from inside the box after Lewis challenged well with a header. Then after some persistant work Lewis scored the goal that his efforts deserved. There was time for a fine move that resulted in a shot come cross (he says cross) from Steven that Tom met well with a header to direct it into the goal. Sadly it was judged offside as it would have been the goal of the game.

A good win 6-0 with 6 different scorers and  5 substitutes all getting a good run against a hard working side . A  special mention to Lee who worked very hard and showed us some strong challenges (one on the Croston No 3 was fantastic) as well as making sure that we kept the ball . Well Done Lee - lets see more of that next week.
